I know, I know! Pink haters are already detesting my email. I swear I'm going to make a relevant point, bear with me for a minute?
When I was about 7 years old, I was obsessed with Barbie. So my mum decided to gift me a huge Barbie Doll house that looked extremely pretty and "pink". I LOVED it! But
guess what? I had to assemble the house first to be able to play with it. Sounded like a lot of work but I somehow managed to do it with some assistance.
I remember having these phases where I loved playing Barbie, and then would dismantle everything when I didn't feel like it. Then I would go back to it just to realize that the house needed to be built again. This had happened a few times and I was tired of putting the work over and over
again.
Then I started using my brains! 🧠 I would leave certain components of the doll house assembled, and dismantle the rest so they all could still be put away when not needed. For instance, I would leave the individual rooms in the house assembled, but detach each of them from the main house. I would detach the backyard items from the actual base but leave the individual parts such as the pool, the garden, the patio furniture all assembled. This was not only a huge
time and effort saver, but it also satisfied my undiscovered OCD as a kid.
What I was doing was essentially crafting and preserving individual reusable "blocks", and using them to build an entire system whenever needed. This refers to the concept of "componentization".
